    Smelting

I’ve never been smelting before, but I’m looking to get out this year. I’m wondering if anyone has been out, and if they’ve had any luck? I was thinking of going to the MacKenzie. Maybe Current River if it’s good there. Do you fish right at the mouth, or back a bit near the Cumberland bridge? I have waders, should I get in the water there, or just go from shore. I picked up a 5ft smelt net, so I should be good to do either. Any other spots I should try around here?

    Live Bait Alternatives?

Happy Friday, y'all! I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for good alternatives to live bait? My son is going fishing this weekend and I have a feeling he's not going to be too impressed with using live bait. I hope I'm wrong, but I'd like to pack an alternative for him if need be. I was just going to pick up some colourful jigs and rubber worms but thought I'd ask some seasoned experts here first Thanks, guys! Happy fishing!

    New to Thunder Bay

Greetings everyone. My my wife and I are new to Thunder Bay as I just got transferred here for work from southern Ontario. We are both very much into fishing and hunting and anything outdoors. We are excited to try our hand at the smelt run this year as it’s something we’ve never done before. Any pointers are greatly appreciated, not only on the smelt run but any general fishing or hunting pointers are greatly appreciated. Hope to see you out there! Jim.

Hi all, I'm going to be trying to catch whitefish through the ice for the first time this year. I've ice fished before but never for whitefish, just wondering about what baits and stuff that y'all use.

I've had a fairly successful walleye season this and have been learning the Armstrong extension a little bit lately.. Wondering if anyone can help me out with a little bit of information on Anders Lake.. The research I've done says there is Walleye in there, can anyone confirm this?? If so, how did you do and how is the access? Any information is appreciated guys and gals, thank you 🐟

  17. What's everyone's thoughts on all this rain and how or what it will affect our fishing this year? Is it going to be good for the rivers to bring up levels? I see alot of trees flowing down the rivers in town. What are the smaller in-land lakes looking like? Is all his rain good or bad?
