    Summer Salmon 2020

Its the 30th of May and water on the big lake has started to warm up. Watched a Bob Izumi episode where he was pulling tail dancers off planner boards in Lake Ontario and catching Chinooks.....his electronics showed a surface temp of 44F. Anyone started the chase for salmon up here om the north shore yet? I imagine everyone would love to get out and feel that first salmon of the yeat on the end of their line! Good Luck evwryone and let us know how you are doing! AB
  2. The cold temps are really hitting hard and building ice quickly on Superior. These two pictures were taken less than 24 hours apart. Saturday there were 4 to six foot rollers coming on shore creating their own thunder and an awesome scene in the bitter cold. Woke up the next morning to the sound of silence. These were taken just south of Tbay. So if you are heading out in places like Little Trout Bay and there are no tracks, make sure you start checking the ice thickness before going to far out! AB

    Spring big lake boat fishing

I have will be in Thunder Bay next week and was thinking about bringing the boat with... I haven't see much chatter about trolling Lake Superior in that area this spring. Do people flat line troll this time of year like other places on the great lakes? I assume there are steelhead in the area, but do salmon and lake trout come up in the water column, too? I am not asking about spots, just wondering if it is at all worth trying. I wouldn't keep a steelhead. Thanks for the great site.

    Green Bay, Lake Superior

Only caught one lake trout on February 27th but it was a nice one. We brought home a couple decent sized herring too.

    Black Bay...Crappies???

Just curious if anyone has ever caught or heard of Crappies being caught in Black Bay on Lake Superior. I have found the fishing on Superior to be getting better every year for many species or maybe I'm just finally figuring it out. Anyway I found an MNR document indicating there are Crappies in Black bay (see page 10) Will be adding this to the list of multi species opportunities on Superior this year to try. http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/stdprodconsume/groups/lr/@mnr/@letsfish/documents/document/stel02_198321.pdf
