A southern Ontario man has been fined $7,000 for illegal hunting near Ignace last fall.

The Woodbridge resident pleaded guilty to moose hunting without a licence, the Ministry of Natural Resources reported Friday.

Court heard that the man was hunting with six other people west of the town on Oct. 10 when he shot and killed an adult bull moose and left it in the bush. His hunting party had legally harvested a bull and cow moose earlier for which they were licensed.

Conservation officers were alerted to the abandoned moose by another hunting party and determined that the main had intentionally shot the animal and left its carcass to spoil.

The ministry says that individual hunters are only permitted to harvest a moose for which they possess the appropriate tag. Hunters who mistakenly shoot a moose are encouraged to contact a conservation officer immediately.

Not just a 3 month season but a 12 month obsession!!!
