Lyle Reiner 174 Report post Posted August 27, 2011 Hey guys I know this is in the wrong spot but I'm hoping someone can help me out. My transfer case in my truck is dead/dying. I need one, bad. My truck is a 2000 chev 5.3L Z71 4x4 with electronic shift 4x4 The scrap yards have them but want my first born, which won't be happening for a few more years. Anyone out there got one? Pro fisherman-Stud Muffin 420 Report post Posted August 28, 2011 if truck wont drive no harm in pulling it. clutches and bearings are cheap but pump and planetary gears are over $400. what a crap design , its like having 2 transmissions with all the parts.does it have problems only in auto mode or in 2wd too?? Lyle Reiner 174 Report post Posted August 28, 2011 It only has issues in 2wd. The truck still drives I just don't want to damage it anymore. I have my doubts that it is the clutches, I'm thinking either the pump or a planetary setup. I will be pulling it tomorrow and opening it. Ill take pics and put them up. I haven't played with transmissions or transfer cases before. However I have done differentials and engines, so I should be ok. Lyle Reiner 174 Report post Posted August 28, 2011 Opened it up and this is what i foundturns out the bearing at the beginning of the clutch pack, and the plate that hold the clutch pack in place/engage it needs to be replacedA LOT better then i thought it would be, and an absolutely welcomed break lol.
