MNR Answer:

Additional game seals for deer will be available again this year for

many of the

Wildlife Management Units in the Northwest Region. (WMU's 3, 4, 5, 6,

7A, 7B, 8, 9A, 9B, 10, 11A, 11B, 12A, 12B, 13, 14, 15A, 15B, 21A).

Hunters who have already purchased a deer licence (either through a

retail outlet or over the phone) are eligible to obtain as many as six

(6) additional seals (doe only). In an order to more evenly distribute

hunting pressure, as in 2006, only two (2) additional game seals per

Wildlife Management Unit will be issued to each individual hunter.

If a hunter applies in the antlerless deer draw and is successful,

he/she will be mailed their licence sticker and validation tag in the

mail. That tag can be used on either a buck (anywhere in the province

with an open deer season) or a doe for the area (Wildlife Management

Unit) specified on the tag. Any additional game seals are for "does

only" and only for the WMU's specified on the seal.

Hunters who wish to apply in the antlerless deer draw may use either of

two (2) methods. They can purchase their licence and apply to the draw

by calling 1-800-288-1155 between April 23 and July 31st. Or, they can

purchase a deer licence at one of many retail outlets and submit a paper

application for the draw to a ServiceOntario counter.

If a hunter missed the deadline for the antlerless draw, (July 31st)

they would still be able to purchase a deer licence (antlered only) and

attempt to obtain additional seals via the phone (in early August).

Additional game seals for deer will be sold by automated telephone

system only from August 7-31st on a first come, first served basis at

1-800-288-1155. The cost for an additional deer seal for residents is

$34.58 plus GST. If a WMU has game seals remaining after August 31st,

they will be sold at selected ServiceOntario counters starting September

5th. The counter in Thunder Bay (435 S. James St.) will only have seals

for the WMU's managed by MNR's Thunder Bay office (11B, 13, 15B).

Other WMU's in the region are managed by:

Fort Frances - WMU's 9A, 9B, 10, 11A, 12A, 12B

Kenora - WMU's 6, 7A, 7B

Red Lake - WMU 3

Sioux Lookout - WMU 4

Dryden - WMU's 5, 8, 15A

Nipigon - WMU 21A

Hunters who applied for an additional deer seal in 2006 will be mailed a

brochure in early August that will explain the system for applying.
