Stewart Lake Fire

I just heard from a friend (who heard it on the radio) that a new fire at Stewart Lake has been reported. It is up the Black Sturgeon Road


Not just a 3 month season but a 12 month obsession!!!

Actually it looks like this is probably the Nipigon fire #26. Here is a C&p from the MNR.

"Nipigon Fire Number 26 is about 150 hectares in size and is located about 12 kilometres north of Highway 11/17 at Hurkett in the Nipigon District. This is a challenging fire with extremely long distances from the water source to the fire. Values protection has been completed in areas to the south, most of which are cottages at Stewart Lake. There is also concern about forestry allocations to the west. Under the direction of the Lesenke Incident Management Team there is a total of 110 staff committed to the fire. An Emergency Area Order is in place over this area with road restrictions in place."

I wonder if travel on Black Sturgeon is restriced, anyone know?

From the Stewart Lake and Black Sturgeon conjunction heading North the road is closed I believe
