Some Old Guy 968 Report post Posted May 30, 2007 KENORA - A Winnipeg man has been fined $1,500 for dumping roofing garbage on Crown land. Jozsef Bremner, 28, must also pay $672 for the clean-up and tipping fees at the landfill site. The court was told that on June 27, 2006, a Ministry of Natural Resources fire crew reported a pile of shingles dumped at a campsite on Silver Lake by the Jones Road about 17 kilometres from the Kenora Bypass. Ministry conservation officers determined that Bremner had been hired by a Winnipeg roofing company to dump garbage from roofing jobs at a landfill site. Instead he dumped it on Crown land. Justice of the Peace Joe Morrison heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Kenora on May 1, 2007. The ministry reminds the public that laws prohibiting the dumping of garbage on Crown land are intended to protect the ecological integrity and natural beauty of the province and ensure the lands are available for the public to enjoy. Approved landfill sites are the only safe place to dispose of garbage.
