Guest MNR Report post Posted April 11, 2012 At the present time, the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) Kenora, Dryden, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and part of Fort Frances districts (not including the former Atikokan District) have a boat cache program that requires a permit. A person who wishes to cache a boat on Crown land in these areas where the boat cache program applies must apply for authorization from the local Ministry of Natural Resources district office. If the request is approved, the applicant signs a three-year numbered agreement with MNR that specifies all the conditions pertaining to the type of authorization. The agreement number must be affixed to the boat for identification.Recreational boats that are cached on Crown land outside this portion of the province in Northwestern Ontarnio are considered a free use of Crown land and require no authority provided they are not placed on portages, trails and access points; in other words, don't interfere with other public use. All boats cached on Crown land are left at the owner’s risk.
