Prop problem

Recommended Posts

eddylives

We run a 79 johnson 25hp out on superior.

Last week a prop spun off/out of the rubber bushing in the hub(no shear pin style prop)

So we thought oh well , just an old prop and it was it's time.

Put another spare prop from the shed on , it had been stored there inside for many years and kept motoring.

A few hours later this prop also failed in the same way , spun the rubber out in the hub of the prop.

So I have to ask if anyone else has had this problem?

Is there an issue with the motor itself?

Does any one know of any place to bring a prop in to be remanufactured? Or have any to part with?

Thanks for any input.

It sounds like your prop that was stored in the shed for a long period of time, the rubber dried out and didn't last long.

There are props available. I went to J&J to get one for my old motor years ago. Give them a call and tell them about your motor. I'm sure they'll have the prop for ya!

When I worked at a marina (years ago) we used to replace the rubber inserts regularly, not a big deal with the right tools, they are pressed in, check with the dealers
