Some Old Guy 968 Report post Posted June 17, 2007 KENORA - Two Kenora residents have been fined $600 after their dogs killed a deer. Christopher Hopkins, 38, was fined $400 and Christina Patsiatzis, 21, was fined $200. They pleaded guilty under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act to letting their dogs run free during the closed hunting season for white-tailed deer. Court was told that on March 10, 2007, a Ministry of Natural Resources Kenora District conservation officer received a tip that two dogs had killed a deer in a field east of Carlton Road in Melick Township. With information from two witnesses, the officer was able to identify the owners of the dogs as Hopkins and Patsiatzis, who live next door to each other. Justice of the Peace Albert Kast heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Kenora, on June 12, 2007. Dog owners are urged to keep their dogs leashed or in enclosures to ensure the safety of both dogs and deer. It illegal to let a dog run at large in an area inhabited by deer, moose, elk and bear during the closed season. Ministry conservation officers are authorized to destroy dogs that chase deer.
