Bear 77 Report post Posted September 22, 2012 I havent shot my bow in about 3 years. It is stored in its case, and because of health reasons I wasnt allowed to shoot it. I am good to go now and want to get it out and start shooting again,.Here is my question, should I get the string changed? I would hate to load it up and have it break and knock me for a loop. Can anyone advise me on what I should do?Bear
milspec 9 Report post Posted September 22, 2012 Personally, I would change it, not worth the risk. Plus the added confidence of a new string will help you focus more on shooting and less on being afraid of getting whipped in the face.
Bear 77 Report post Posted September 22, 2012 Is there somewhere in Thunder Bay that does this? What would it cost?ThanksBear
milspec 9 Report post Posted September 23, 2012 I would say go to D&R Sporting Goods, but I don't trust their bow mechanics, unfortunately Taos Archery is closed, and Gary from Bait'N Arrows is away on a Moose hunt. So unfortunately D&R is your only choice to get this done right away. One other option is to go to the Lakehead Archery Club on an open night and ask someone there. Who knows maybe the more experienced guys there will say its ok to keep the string on.Give this guy a call, hes a member at the Archery Club, and may be able to provide you with more accurate information.Shane BakerSKB EnterprisesThunder Bay Ontario807-626-3353
milspec 9 Report post Posted September 23, 2012 sorry not to sure about cost, but while you're at it, if you can afford to, i would get whomever you find to to a full scale bow check up and tune up. May as well start fresh mate!

milspec 9 Report post Posted September 23, 2012 No problem. I'd say I'd do it.. but I don't have a bow press yet.
luckmedic 3 Report post Posted September 24, 2012 Stacey from DNR replaced the string on my Parker compound in May. I think it was around $180 for the string, cables and labour. He also made some recommendations, replaced my peep sight, cranked her up to 70 lbs and made sure she was flying true and straight. He did a great job, hitting tight rounds and 30 and even 40 yards.Lucky Quote If you wanna blow smoke, go have a dart.
