I was reading part of the fishing regs and it quickly mentions of a pink salmon dip net season in all divisions. So i was just wondering the specs on it.

MNR Answer:

A person who holds a ?Dip Net licence to Take Fish for Personal Use? may fish for Lake Herring, Lake Whitefish and Pink Salmon with a dip-net

(a) the dimensions of which do not exceed 183 cm by 183 cm where the dip-net is angular; or

(B) the diameter of which does not exceed 183 cm where the dip-net is circular.

There is no fee for a dip net licence but a person must hold a valid sport fishing licence to be eligible to obtain one. Dip net licences are available only from MNR?s district offices. There may be conditions placed on the dip net licence such as time of year and/or location where the licence is valid. MNR offices have the right to refuse to issue a licence for locations where pink salmon are in low numbers or non existent and there exists a greater chance of netting other sport fish.

Pink Salmon were introduced into Goose Creek, an Ontario tributary of Hudson?s Bay in 1955. This introduction failed but some of the same brood were accidentally introduced into Lake Superior from the Current River Hatchery in Thunder Bay where they were being raised. They have maintained a small population in Lake Superior and have since expanded their range to all the Great Lakes. They only spawn once, generally at 2 years of age, although some individuals live three years.

For Lake Superior, (Division 23 and its tributaries) Pacific Salmon (Chinook, Coho and Pink) the season is open all year except December 24th. The catch and possession limit for salmon is an aggregate of five.

The catch and possession limit for Salmon and Trout combined (not exceeding individual species limits) is:

Sport Fish Licence: five (5) salmon and trout combined but not more than three (3) may be lake trout, splake and brook trout combined.

Conservation Licence: Two (2) in one day with not more than one (1) lake trout.

Thunder Bay District does not issue dip net licences for pink salmon.
