Can someone stand below the no fishing signs, but cast up into the No fishing area? I did witness a guy standing below the signs (legal) but cast right up to the weir, legal or not? Guest MNR Report post Posted May 7, 2013 Under section 27© of the Fisheries Act it is illegal to“fish in any manner within twenty-five yards downstream from the lower entrance to any fish-way, canal, obstacle or leap”.So it doesn’t matter that you’re standing outside of the 25 yards downstream of the barrier, by casting into it, you’re fishing in the prohibited area. Fish are extremely vulnerable here and the odds of snagging a fish are high.MNR provides the signage here as a courtesy.
