Recommended Posts

RH.

i recently aquired a 1985 super 6.5 evinrude outboard and it has a generator equiped on it, it has one of those 3 pronged plug in things, not really sure what to use it for, does anybody else have the same kind of thing on any of their motors and if so, what do you use it for?

huh? i think it has stator, for ignition, so that 3 prong may be to run lights on boat. i forget how many coils on a stator equals what for voltage? there is some math nerd formula.

it wont be 12vdc, AC

Older boats had ac lights? i remember hearing about this but have since forgotten

I believe it is 12v AC. It is for running boat lights. Nothing to change on your lights - the bulbs dont care if they are AC or DC. There were a number of older Johnsons and Evinrudes that had 12 v ac plug ins on them.
