Guest Rob Report post Posted July 30, 2013 Hello TBF,I was looking to try and fish the mouth of the current river at the park. Is the boat launch and dock private property? Also, what else besides a floating rap would work here? Thanks
Guest FreshwaterFisherman Report post Posted July 30, 2013 It is public. I've launched my boat there a ton. You can fish anywhere there. Float and leech. Jig and minnow. For pike spinner baits and big spoons, or large top waters like the Zara spook.

Guest Steelheadmagnet Report post Posted August 2, 2013 Might be some pink salmons moving in, kinda early but a possibility for sure
Guest Steelheadmagnet Report post Posted August 2, 2013 Try a little sized little Cleo, or some size 2 or 3 spinners
Weekend coaster 15 Report post Posted August 2, 2013 If the fish were small green with black speckles or silver with small black speckles and had humps on their backs maybe like people said before the pinks could be staging
Guest FreshwaterFisherman Report post Posted August 2, 2013 Hard to believe they would be in already...but maybe.
Guest Steelheadmagnet Report post Posted August 2, 2013 It's been a wierd season, you never know. I can't think of any other fish that would be surfacing with humps
McGinnis_Fishing 49 Report post Posted August 2, 2013 Maybe the colder weather we had a little while ago triggered something?
Weekend coaster 15 Report post Posted August 2, 2013 Have they ever ran up this early before I am new to salmon fishing and have caught them in the current last fall
Guest FreshwaterFisherman Report post Posted August 3, 2013 I can't remember them running up this early. I've seen early seasons and by that I mean mid-late August but even then it still took a while to get into full swing. Usually the pinks come in pretty quick in the cr and darken up real fast. Seasons been messed so who knows. To me, it's hard to believe they would be in by now. I'm gonna go check it out in the next few days.
Weekend coaster 15 Report post Posted August 3, 2013 Are pinks the only salmon that spawn in the current in great numbers
kbrest 151 Report post Posted August 3, 2013 Last year they started around the last week of August, first week of September, right through to around the 20th of September. Cooler temperatures though might be triggering an earlier run. There are some salmon running into the Nipigon already as well. Could be the bigger males early staging too with the Humpies in the current, bring the fly rod down Brodie they are a lot of fun.
Guest FreshwaterFisherman Report post Posted August 3, 2013 Yes pinks are the only salmon that have a regular run in the cr.
McGinnis_Fishing 49 Report post Posted August 3, 2013 Ive never caught a pink, maye ill give it a try this fall. What do guys catch them on? Spoons?
kbrest 151 Report post Posted August 3, 2013 Spoons or even spinners, but try silver and blue or silver and green Little Cleos in the smallest size you can get. They did really well for me last year, silver and blue in the morning and silver and green in the evening seemed to be the pattern I got dialed into. Weekend coaster 15 Report post Posted August 3, 2013 I went to current river today and the water was high and fast at the falls saw people fishing with bobbers at the piers. The steelhead association did a nice job of making the place nice.
kbrest 151 Report post Posted August 3, 2013 Yah floats with leeches is usually the Walleye set up that seems to work well down there, and for Bass. No reason why that wouldnt work for the salmon as well. But salmon being salmon will go for something moving a bit faster, especially when they are staging around the mouth area. Guest FreshwaterFisherman Report post Posted August 3, 2013 I may go give it a shot tonight...see if I encounter any salmons. Haha.
kbrest 151 Report post Posted August 3, 2013 Yah was thinking the same thing, or early tomorrow morning before work.
