I came across this sign, SW of White River along the 700 rd. I am curious as to the meaning / intent of this sign. This road no longer access these lakes (bridge removed), but is it unlawful to access these lakes by another means?

I know, historically these lakes were accessed via HWY 17 at Hemlo, but access was restricted through the mine property. To my knowledge there is no fishing restriction in place on these lakes.

If I were to access these lakes (by an alternate route) would I be committing an offence? And why is access to these lakes restricted?

Thank you.

Chris.

The signs in this instance were placed to protect the "remoteness" of a remote tourism lake. It does not mean that you cannot access the lake, it means that you cannot use the named road to get to the lake.

In most instances, there is an outpost camp on the lake that was established before the forest access road was built. An agreement is reached with the outfitter to protect his/her investement that will restrict general public access via the forest access road. No one is going pay money to fly into a "remote" lake when others can walk in. Sometimes after silviculture activities are completed in the area, road maintenance is abandoned or culverts removed.
