But I would not do as that guy did. The moose was at a distance. He hooted then started moving forward. Then the moose came at him. He the detered the moose but then moved forward again!!!!! Unbelievable!!!! Then after the shooting doesn't even finish it off! Just drives away!

I have encountered moose before. Just stop and let it move on. You have to realize that animals also like to take the path of least resistance. In this case a snowmobile trail. There was lots of snow! I don't know. I don't get it.

I agree with Roger here, he shoots far to early. Pretty sure he could have thrown the nice new sled in reverse and gave that animal some time to vacate the area. Never thought I needed to carry a hand gun on a sled ride.

I agree, he should not have moved forward after he saw the moose on the trail. The moose just did not want to get off the trail. It would have cut in to the woods sooner or later.

I don't know guys. I've driven up the road to get a closer look at that deer, moose, bear lynx but not to the point of crowding the animal or chasing it down the road. You will notice the droppings on the trail when the guy pulls up a bit further. Did they force that moose to run prior to it turning on them? Being struck by a bull moose probably got that adrenaline pumping He probably could have put a couple more warning shots out there before taking the moose down. Put in that situation, I'm not sure what I would do (after dropping a load in my shorts).

I agree %100. This guy provoked the attack by moving forward on the moose, not once, but twice. He clearly could have avoided the situation completely but instead decided to unload a clip on the moose and leave it to die of its injuries. This makes me sick. This guy is a COWARD and a P.O.S.

Proves my point that carrying a pistol only serves to escalate the situation. Last summer camping at Open Bay Lodge, I got the opportunity to speak with a lot of Americans who camped there. Usually drank beer with them, coffe etc. around the fire. One of the older fellas says he doesn't know how I go out of the house with my family without a gun. He wanted to know how I would handle myself if a "crazy" person walked up to me. Well... my first instinct would be that he/she has some kind of mental illness, and it certainly wouldn't justify shooting them! Just goes to show the mentality of some (certainly not all) "pro gun" types. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for hunting and shooting, but that's something alltogether different.

Anyway I agree that moose didn't have to die. Turned what could have been a cool encounter, pretty sour.

A gun makes you brave. Without it, he would have probably stayed back where he first saw it, and he would have had an awesome story to tell later. However, having it with him allows him to be an aggressive a$%&^*e, and results in a completely gross outcome.

To me it looks like the only thing the guy did right was when he first stopped a good ways off. After that he hooted like a small dog or animal that made the moose curious and it WALKED up for a look. If the guy would have sat down and shut his mouth the animal probably would have just taken a look to see what it was and then just had gone back it's own way. When he stood up on his machine and started waving his arms that close to the moose I think the thing saw it as a challenge and reacted with a charge and then turned and just started walking away again.

Without knowing exactly where he was at and what he was doing out there I can't say much about having a handgun. There are areas out west where it is recommended to carry a weapon though because of dangerous animals. How many people on here take a gun out camping with them because of bears up there? It seems to me there was a thread awhile ago where everyone was talking about what they carried. Why not just go back in your trailer or tent?

I agree with everybody here for the most part, although I think that some may be taking it a little extreme. yes the guy is an idiot (most likely a Cydiot) and I don't agree with how he approached it, and yes he may have fired maybe a second before I would have (granted I would not have drove froward in the first place), but I don't think anybody here would let a bull moose trample you again when its charging the second time.

I've been charged by bulls before. It's out of your control. One of which while duck hunting; without any provocation, the bull came charging from over 100 yards where it couldn't even see me till it was little more than ten feet away and a very tense standoff ensued, shotgun ready. I'll admit that if that bull had taken one more lunge forward, it was getting three very swift shots to the head and I would have had a very big mess on my hands.

You never know how you're going to react until your there, nor do you know how that animal is going to react. Who's to say that the bull would have just walked off the trail had he stuck back initially like most of us would have. IMO, I'm pretty sure that moose had Brain Worm anyway, that behaviour seems pretty characteristic of it.

Not trying to defend the guy, just sharing my opinion.

That right there is the whole point. The chance for the moose to do so wasn't given. Moose attack wolves in the winter, as do deer as the snow is deep. Sometimes a great defence is a great offence.

Brain worm? It ran a pretty straight line. It wasn't disorientated at all.

Was the moose aggressive? Yes. But why was it aggressive? The video shows why it was aggressive.

Bears, you make yourself look big and make yourself loud. Moose..... totally opposite.

Like I said before. The moose was on the trail as it was the path of least resistance. Every animal will use the path of least resistance. Conserves energy.

To me, this video shows the utmost ingnorance, disrespect and inhumane portions of what a human can do.

If that guy shut off his machine, and sat down as soon as he saw the moose and waited the moose might have made it either into the bush or to the lake where the snowmachines could have given it a wide berth, there wouldn't be an issue. Now if he did shut off his machine and sat down and the moose still came at him? I would have no issue whatsoever of him shooting AND MAKING SURE IT WAS DEAD.

The point of you duck hunting and facing off with a bull while duck hunting. Well near water.... moose in rut.... and you gave it a chance? You did a hell of a lot better than the guy on the machine.

For some reason this video really bothers me. I don't hunt nor am I against it. But I have seen moose on the trail and I just shut everything off and just enjoyed watching it.

Yes they are big animals and can be unpredictable. That's why we have to respect them and give them their space.

"Guns make you brave"....so does sitting behind a keyboard. I think we become too quick to judge sometimes. I don't like what the guy did, but is he really an a**hole or a coward for not knowing how to deal with wildlife? Dealing with wildlife is something so inherent to most of us here that we forget that there are a lot of people who have never even seen a moose! What we consider common sense ins't necessarily true to others.

It is everyones responsibility to educate themselves before immersing themselves in the wilderness. Ignorance is no excuse. Yes, this guy is an a hole and an idiot. He was wrong 100%, and he wanted to shoot that moose, he also left it to suffer and there is no excuse for that. Everything that happened was his fault. He deserves to get in serious trouble.
