Guest mud trout Report post Posted February 27, 2014 If you're like me you can't leave things fly fishing related well enough alone. I've had this idea for a such a long time of creating with my own hands much more than just the flies that i tie. So I thought, how much of what I use for fly fishing can I build and take a certain sense of accomplishment in. It started out with the biggest project of all, since i enjoy fishing from canoe from time to time, i decided to build my own cedar strip canoe. This was a project that took way too long but when finally completed, i was more than pleased with the way it floated and maneuvered both on stream and still water. Since then I have tied up furled leaders, mono knotted leaders, and built a number of fly rods from blanks that I purchased in both graphite and cane. These are pics of my latest bamboo rod project. just wondering if any of you are crazy enough to take this fly fishing way beyond any sensible reason, lol. flybum 95 Report post Posted February 28, 2014 beautiful! i am totally willing to make my own rod and try things from scratch. currently, what i lack is time and space. i think once my daughter gets a bit bigger and we move to a bigger place with a shop or garage, ill get a bit busier. Guest mud trout Report post Posted February 28, 2014 Yeah, time is certainly an issue. I try to get these little projects done during the long winter months. As far as space goes, i wrap and glue up a blank right at my tying desk or just sitting in the living room.
