Yamaha 4hp 4stroke dealer service costs

Recommended Posts

Bobber Down

So I had my 2012 Yamaha 4hp 4 stroke in for a warranty recall issue and thought "hey" why not get the oil changed and have them change the spark plug while it was there. The service person gave me a price of $318. for the work. I was afraid to ask if that included tax. What do guys get charged for the 150hp - 225hp motors. Seriously thinking of getting rid of the Yamaha now just because of that price. Is this the norm for having an outboard motor serviced?

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - WOW - what a ride!!!

dealer will use premium/oem fluids and plug.

so lower unit and engine oil along with oil filter and recommended plugs. probably like $100 in parts/fluids .I would think any 4 stroke would be around the same. with 1.5 hours labour.

i did my engine service at home and at dealer what i purchased was 18$ for lower unit fluid, 26$ for fuel filter, 25$ for compressor filter, and plugs are $100 for all 6 i think.

wow, don't go back to who ever that was. Do it yourself for about 80 bucks. I guess it'll take you an hour and half labor if your drinking a 6 pack while your doing it lol..

$318 for a 4hp is crazy! Either you were miss quoted or they are trying to gouge you.

If they are using hourly Labor Rates that some use down here your looking at $125+ per hour,so 1 1/2 hrs would be around $187.50 for the labor alone. They also add a flat fee that covers rags, solvents and cleaning fluids to every bill, usually $10.00. Now add plugs, engine oil, filters, lower unit grease, and water pump impeller if you change that as well. Figure $110 for parts and your up to $287.50 plus your 14% tax and your up to $327.75. It's the Labor cost that kills you.

if it takes you an hour and half to change oil and a plug you have no business working on an outboard.
