Were you able to hit those depths inside the 1st ice ridge?

Just wondering if you could catch the north end of the deep water trench without going over the ridges? It would be nice to use the quad (safely) for access.

Might spread out some of the pressure to if there is good fishing to be found away from the shacks and other anglers.

thanks,

iceman

We were more out towards green point and across the ridge on snow machine wouldn't recommend using quad crossing the far ridge

this is a pic of the ice ridge when we came in tonight its sleds only for now until we get a bridge made. this is the narrowest spot about 4 feet wide most spots are almost 10 feet wide so be real careful crossing the ridge

post-1941-0-80506200-1420066168_thumb.jp the bridge is finished atv`s are the best means of transportation on black bay right now not enough snow for sleds to get cooling

just go slow when crossing the bridge always remember safety first

Fishing was slow ish , a fair bit of human error amongst the older anglers. and yes liquid sleds maybe over heat , had to stop 3 times. No studs or scratchers :(

Service was top notch. Great shack warm out of the wind we were in the ice floor day shack. Great with kids

Is Black Bay road maintained in the winter? Or is there a better way to access the area by car?

The road to the launch is a municipal road and is usually well maintained

Black bay road (the road off of hwy 11-17 just after the wolf river bridge) is not maintained in the winter, however the hurkett dock road, off of hwy 582 (hurkett loop), is maintained in the winter and can easily be accessed via car.

Just don't expect to drive that said car onto black bay lol ;)

How far of a walk is it from that access point?

It is a lengthy quad/ sled ride out to good fishing but Gary runs a shuttle out there, pulling a sleigh behind his snowmobile. Worth it for good fishing.

anyone thinking of going out on black bay make sure you check the weather report. if it says 15 km winds or more in town it will be a 60 km or more wind on black bay there is no shelter out there so use common sense its not worth anybody getting hurt out there or worst
