Some Old Guy 968 Report post Posted September 16, 2007 RED LAKE - Two Madoc men have been fined $1,500 each for discharging their firearms in a roadway. Brian Ramsay, 39, and Percy Kennedy, 59, pleaded guilty. The bull moose they killed was forfeited to the Crown. Their firearms will be returned when their fines have been paid. Their Ontario hunting privileges and licences have been suspended until they complete the hunter education course. The court heard that on October 14, 2006, the men were travelling on the Dixie Lake Road West from Highway 105 when they saw a bull moose. They got out of their truck and shot the moose. Ministry of Natural Resources Red Lake District conservation officers arrived shortly after the moose was shot. The officers determined that from the position from which Ramsay and Kennedy shot the moose, they would not have been able to determine if there was traffic beyond the crest of the hill behind the moose. The men did have a bull moose tag for the correct Wildlife Management Unit. Justice of the Peace Albert Kast heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Red Lake, on August 3, 2007. The ministry reminds the public that regulations that prohibit hunters from discharging a firearm on or across a roadway are in place to protect hunters and the public.
