flybum 95 Report post Posted January 21, 2015 For a 3-4 wt reel you can do whatever Ya want! Not many of those fish are going to get to the drag. toma-hawk 44 Report post Posted January 21, 2015 Just remember you get what you pay for, sometimes cheap doesn't last and if you buy another cheap one you could have bought your self a half decent one for same money and would last.Don't get me wrong I under stand budget restraints lived them all my life All I know cheap is cheap and you will be buying again.Learned this through experience. Guest mud trout Report post Posted January 21, 2015 I've given up buying expensive reels, and for a reel i consider 100.00 to be expensive. I have a couple at that price and they are great reels with really good drags. I also bought a reel for less than 30.00 bucks a couple of years ago so that i could throw a sinking live on and fish for bass as well as Arrow river Browns. I had browns on that reel that taxed the drag time after time, those trout ranged 4 to 8 lbs, fought hard and stripped out line. The reel held up nicely. Over time i don't know but for the price...For small creak brook trout you'll never need the drag so as flybum suggested just something with a click and prawl would be fine.If you're going to spend extra you would be far better off spending it on your rod and line. I have cheapo reels that i have used on small creaks for many years and they are as good today as ever.I should add that I fly fish small creeks for brookies far more than all other types of fishing put together.
