Stocking ponds with panfish

Recommended Posts

Benji

I have a large pond on my property. It is about 500' by 125'. That is 1.4 acres. It is average 5 feet deep and has an abundance of weeds and structure. There are minnows and insects in this pond. This pond has an inlet from the neighbours pond and flows into the slate river.

i want to stock it with perch and bass so I do not have to go far for a nice fishing trip. I know I will need permits from the mnr. I know that I will need to find a hatchery with bass and perch to stock it.

Does anyone know of a hatchery that raises bass and perch to 3"? Who I should talk to for permits? Any concerns about this?

Talk to the MNR first. The rules are pretty strict. The fact your pond empties into the slate river will likely disqualify it, unless you can ensure your fish can't escape, or potentially contaminate the river.
