HEARST - Most hunters and anglers stopped at a game check station in Hearst were obeying Ontario's hunting and fishing regulations.

Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers from Hearst, Kapuskasing, Hornepayne, Manitowadge, Gearldton and Cochrane, Ministry of Revenue and Ministry of Transportation enforcement officers, and the Ontario Provincial Police conducted the joint enforcement blitz from October 12 to 14. Conservation officers were checking for compliance with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and were paying special attention to moose hunting violations.

Officers checked over 3,000 individuals during the weekend. Conservation officers issued two charges for overlimits of walleye and 18 warnings for improperly tagging and transporting harvested moose.

Ministry of Transportation and Ministry of Revenue enforcement officers checked an additional 500 individuals and gave out numerous warnings and charges for violations under the Highway Traffic Act and the Fuel Tax Act.

To report a natural resources violation, call 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667) toll-free any time or contact your local ministry office during regular business hours. You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
