Porter Ross 6 Report post Posted April 27, 2017 I have will be in Thunder Bay next week and was thinking about bringing the boat with... I haven't see much chatter about trolling Lake Superior in that area this spring. Do people flat line troll this time of year like other places on the great lakes? I assume there are steelhead in the area, but do salmon and lake trout come up in the water column, too? I am not asking about spots, just wondering if it is at all worth trying. I wouldn't keep a steelhead. Thanks for the great site.
RatherBeFishin 86 Report post Posted April 27, 2017 Good question ! I would think you would have some success flat lining. Dont seem to hear to much about it. At least i dont anyway. Gotta be some different fish higher up in the column.

tronnyd88 25 Report post Posted April 28, 2017 pike and lake trout are caught fishing from shore at the marina in the spring my guess is that trolling in the area would be productive. also last sprimg i seen a boat trolling out in front of the mouth of the current river. Porter Ross 6 Report post Posted May 3, 2017 Will the boat landing at Red Rock be open even if the marina doesn't open until mid-month?

pastor norm 125 Report post Posted May 4, 2017 I have gone salmon trolling in the Silver Islet area at this time of year. Lots of cloudy water in Black Bay from the runoff. But I have caught them tight to the southern shores of Islands with fast drop offs. They are looking to warm themselves. Watch for shallow reefs and rocks big bounders coming out of no where. Try to troll on the break between cloudy runoff water and clear water.
Porter Ross 6 Report post Posted May 4, 2017 Thanks for the thoughts everyone, I will let you know where I end up and how I did. Weather of course may determine what I do.
Porter Ross 6 Report post Posted May 8, 2017 Things did not go according to plan...Went to Little Trout Bay, got the boat in the water and discovered the battery hardly had any juice. I had the onboard charger plugged in overnight prior to the weekend, so something drained the battery, the charger isn't working or isn't connected somewhere in the bowels of the boat, or the battery is shot. I did get the motor going and it did charge the battery a bit. Fished for a while, but it was too windy to explore area too much. No fish.
