Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry media release

A Marathon man has been fined $1,500 for allowing game to spoil.

Michael Thomas pleaded guilty and was fined $1,500 for permitting the flesh of a white-tailed deer to become unsuitable for human consumption.

Court heard that on November 11, 2016, conservation officers on routine patrol west of Fort Frances observed Thomas loading a doe white-tailed deer into the back of his truck. During an inspection, the officers detected a rotten odour coming from the back of the vehicle and found a buck white-tailed deer that had been harvested on November 6, 2016. The flesh of the deer had spoiled.

Justice of the Peace Pat Clysdale-Cornell heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Fort Frances, on May 26, 2017.
