hunt or be hunted 59 Report post Posted July 19, 2017 Is this a live release derby or catch/kill derby ? Those are some big fish to be killing and eating just for a derby if this is the case just curious if so ???
Kaptain Kirk 34 Report post Posted July 19, 2017 I just wish the salmon and lake nipigon derby didn't fall on the same weekend. It would be nice to fish them booth. Good size. Fish congrats to the winners at lake nipigon
smokerscully1 16 Report post Posted July 20, 2017 It's a catch and kill contest--I don't know how it could be done any other way. Everyone tries to stay in contact with the weigh-in officials so you don't keep any fish smaller than 3rd place. Most years it takes a 30 or 40 lber to place--I once had a 32 liber and didn't even place.
seppi 19 Report post Posted August 15, 2017 This derby is actually done in conjunction with local MNR staff as a creel and sample opportunity to check for new diseases and to keep an eye out for other possible problems , they've been doing this for as long as I can remember !
