350chevy 14 Report post Posted November 26, 2017 Do you guys use different rods for different kinds of fish? I get you go beefier for lakers but I mean, use the same rod for walleye and specks/perch? Or do you have your wallye rod, speck rod, perch rod etc? I'm not have good hook ups using my walleye rods for specks. I'm thinking they are too stiff. Let me know please. Bobber Down 921 Report post Posted November 26, 2017 I think your right. Here is a teaser. 1 Quote Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - WOW - what a ride!!! Some Old Guy 968 Report post Posted November 26, 2017 I use my perch rods for brook trout. I have two for walleye and two for lake trout. So 6 rods in total that I use. Actually I only have 5 at the moment. I had one get ripped down the hole last winter....... Thanks for the reminder. I have to replace that one! Roger Quote R.T.R. Respect the resource! RatherBeFishin 86 Report post Posted November 27, 2017 I use 38-40” med for walleye and 38-40 med heavy for lakers. Then i use 30” ish lights for specks. However. I tend to usually use real thin willows with no type of tension so line just slides right off unnoticed.
Zackcorbin1401 541 Report post Posted November 27, 2017 I use about 4 rods depends on what I’m fishing for and if I have to hike a far way in.
Pro fisherman-Stud Muffin 420 Report post Posted November 28, 2017 Having more rods is great.I have a pile of ice rods all have thier uses. but you can try smaller hooks.. small hooks cut and get set easier. Trying to hook a smaller spec with # 1 sized or bigger hooks is difficult on any rod. #6 or #8 size hooks will stick to anything. Won't even need a hookset. Justbe mindful of leader nicks as smaller hooks tend to lay line on fishes teeth Cheers Quote 2016 Dog Lake Open Champion.
