BIG SMOKE 22 Report post Posted February 7, 2018 Sorry if this is not in the proper forum, but I was curious to find out if anyone knows how my son (12 yrs old) obtains a valid license to drive a snow machine or ATV? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks B
Adrian 132 Report post Posted February 7, 2018 Thunder Bay Adventure Trails Snowmobile Club holds training courses for young snowmobilers. Upon successful completion of the course, the student gets an MTO issued snowmobile operators license. I do not know of a similar program for ATV's. For more information on the snowmobile training, send an email to sledman@tbaytel.net

Bobber Down 921 Report post Posted February 7, 2018 Here is a link to The Motorized Snow Vehicles Act https://www.ontario.ca/laws/statute/90m44 Here is the link to the mto.gov.on info for ATV Operation http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/driver/pdfs/smart-ride-safe-ride-ATV.pdf Looks like your son can drive and atv off road without a licence till he is 16 e.g. off-road, trails, private property, or Crown Land. I read it to say he can't drive along or cross a "permitted road". I didn't hunt to see what a permitted road was. A permitted road is one where ATV traffic is specifically permitted by municipal bylaw. Quote I'm going out to fish. - John 21:
