I gives you a good range of focus (field of view) for a variety of hunting situations. A 40mm objective allows adequate light but keeps the size and weight to a decent level. I have seen quite a few Northern Ontario hunters mount this scope on see-thru base rings as it allows better close up shooting (using the barrel sites) when the situation arises. Obviously there will be other opinions on this topic but like the 30-06 caliber rifle if you did a survey this scope would be the number one pick. My two cents...
