Guest GNO Report post Posted June 5, 2009 Can a person from the US hold a recreational boat cache? What are the guidelines for obtaining a boat cache for personal use, not commercial? This would be in the Fort Frances area. Thanks
Guest MNR Report post Posted June 10, 2009 Following are excerpts from the NW Region Boat Cache Program Guidelines: (applies to the Territorial District of Rainy River, not Thunder Bay) Question: Can a person from US hold authority for a recreational boat cache: Section 1.4.1 “In order to hold authority for a recreation boat cache, the authority holder must be a resident of the Province of Ontario (as defined in the Fish & Wildlife Conservation Act) or be a non-resident of Ontario who requires the use of a boat to access private property. These boats are authorized through a Recreational Boat Cache Agreement between the boat/property owner and the MNR and as identified in the conditions of the Agreement, can be used for transportation purposes only – no fishing allowed from that particular boat. The Boat Cache Agreement number that is to be permanently affixed on the exterior starboard bow would reflect this “transport only” i.e. FF-200-PT – the “P” identifying the boat as private and the “T” meaning transportation only. Question: What are the guidelines to obtaining a personal use boat cache? Section 1.5.1 “Any Ontario resident, or non-resident of Ontario requiring a boat cache to access private property in Ontario, may apply for recreational boat cache authority at any time”. Section 1.5.2 “Lakes where recreational boat caches or resource user boat caches are not permitted may be identified in various land use and resource plans, or to be identified by the District Manager from time to time.” Applications can be obtained from any MNR district that administers the Program.
