Hey Andy,

- get any answers on that etec issue? I tripped over this on walleye central.

ETEC Owners Group. Lots of good ETEC info.

Good luck...

Jeff,

The EMM unit had to be replaced. The EMM - Engine Management Module is the computer that controls the outboard.

When the techs at Smith's took the old module out they found the head gasket was leaking on the exhaust side.

The gasket and EMM module were both replaced - Luckily I still have a year left on the 3 yr warranty.

The EMM failure and the leaking gasket have erroded my confidence.

Up to a month ago I would have endorsed the E-TEC as the outboard of choice. It exceeded performance expectations on all fronts up to the failure. Electronics can go at anytime, but I wonder if hot exhaust gasses near the EMMmight have contributed to its early demise.

I'm waiting to hear what BRP has to say about this all before I completely throw in the towel on Evinrude. Like I said before it was great up until this incedent.

We'll see?

Andy
