Well I joined. I think I met this guy 2 nites ago. I was talking to a buddy on the Mac and we were talking about Thunder Bay Fishing. We were talking about how great an information source this site is. I am originally from s.ont. You think this area is bad, go fish down south. Now back to my point of tail out. He came up to us and asked if we were talking about this site and if that is how we found out if the steel head were running. We said yes. He then goes on a rant. Unbelievable. I just want to say that I have met 4 best friends because of this site. That was the best thing for me about this web site. And by the way tailout. Are you a dentist? Just asking because you do an amazing amount of flossing on the river.

No defense required here tailfeathers..... Your argument is lame at best with zero backing I would say that your responses are classic depleted cries Love troll fishing....all catch and release lmfao

seeing as how these rainbows were transplanted here why are you all up in a fuss, not like they are a native fish to this area.

I hate to break it to you tailout, when I first started fishing steel 30 years ago there were people snagging then too. Long before this site they somehow figured out that fish were in the rivers all by themselves. Like people have already said, take the time to educate the wrong doers and quit painting everyone with the same brush.

Youve clearly never seen Southern Ontario rivers...are the fishing forums down there responsible for the massive crowds down there too? You honestly think this site has more effect than Social Media? My newsfeed is 80% steelhead right now, and I dont even fish for them. Whats wrong with young kids learning to fish? Im sure you are holier than thou and handle every fish exactly right, never foul hook or deep hooked a fish. Would you rather the kids stay home and not fish, then break into your vehicle when they get bored? Why don't you take a few minutes and educate the people who are mishandling fish on proper techniques rather than come online and Arf Arf. So before you blame one facet of the information available online for the sole destruction of a fishery, how about doing a little bit of positive action and get with the times! Maybe you should send Mark Zuckerberg an email to let him know how detrimental facebook is to your precious steelhead, see how that goes! 🖕🖕

You sure spend a lot of time at the the river. If you are so concerned about the pressure of fishing you, your family, and your " buddies high up in the fishing community" should stay off the rivers and relieve some of that pressure...

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't black bay originally a walleye fishery until commercial fishin wiped it out. Also are steelhead natural in Lake Superior?

People need to stop complaining. Thats some nerve tailout. U think its this sites fault. Give your head a shake. What about facebook , instagram , twitter , snap chat , i could go on and on. To blame the owner of this site you are absolutely in the wrong. Its the 21st century. May as well go ahead and yell at the chronicle journal to for posting a picture of anglers trying there luck at the neebing. Anyways. Thats enough. Apparently fish are in the rivers so i heard. 🎣

Yes definetely you are correct Tailout. 30 years ago when I was in my youth nobody fished the rivers for steelhead in the spring, most likely because nobody had an idea when the ice had gone out of the rivers. Of course we didn't have websites like this one ruining everything. I'm sure that the people you see letting the steelhead roll around on the ground are all users of social media and more specifically this site! As a matter of fact I'm almost certain that this site is somehow responsible for the decline in moose numbers throughout our region as well. It is a shame that somebody driving the little known road known as the Trans-Canada highway had to tell everyone else that the rivers are thawing this spring. On a more serious note, I see a lot of younger people fishing on the rivers at this time of year. This may be one of the few opportunities that some people get to fish at all during the year. Aren't we lucky in Thunder Bay to be able to introduce kids to the joys of fishing right within the city limits. The people heading out to further reaches towards the east on the north shore are not waiting for the " ice out " signal on this website. The majority of them would be on the rivers anyway, just like I'm sure you are. Incidentaly, although I am an avid hunter and fisherman , I am not a steelhead angler. You don't have to worry about me catching any fish that you hold in such high regard.

It's not steelhead season on thunderbayfishing without someone remaining nameless to come on the forum to complain, try educating anglers who mishandle fish on the river rather than complaining about it here. You do a great job with this forum roger keep it up the good work.

Any fish that you plan to release should be handled carefully and released quickly. However trying to blame a website for people knowing fish are in the rivers is ridiculous. People were catching steelhead long before the interweb.

Well it says yards in section 27. So I guess that's why the sign says yards. My bad. Roger

Everyone with a fishing license is well within their rights to fish for them as much as they want and posting on a fishing forum will do nothing to change it

When I have fished them they are on bottom. But it was later than June. I fish 50-125 fow ..You have to zoom in to really see the marks in 100 fow . Small screen showing 100 ft, a fish on bottom is just a tiny hoop. The way I see it..Whitefish aren't predators they are prey..Like little lake cows that graze all day.. if they did suspend they would be a fairly easy meal. I'm sure they eat during the hatches but I haven't caught many during a hatch. The heaviest most dense water is right around 4 deg C. So on the bottom. They can stay deep all year and the water temp Wouldn't change. In winter it's colder near surface and warmest at bottom (still 4 deg C ish). So 100 fow on bottom should be same temp 365 days a year the way I understand things. So I would guess they stay on bottom and deep the majority of the time. I didn't read this in a textbook or anything so I could be way off, but it makes sense in my head
