Hey, to each their own and Id never knock someone for trapping their own bait but I feel Thunderbay bait prices are very fair, especially for leeches. We are by far the cheapest per lb than any neighbouring areas. I know what it costs for all the equipment, fuel, meat to bait leeches, Bread, traps, quads, canoes, trucks, insurance, licence's to sell/trap bait, fees for all the bait blocks, wages, water, electricity, bags, motors, quads, repairs to vehicles and quads etc., and the list goes on and on and on. Annnnd I know the hard work that goes into it! Its not only about fuel...I never understood why ppl on this site always relate bait prices to fuel only. I think Its one of those grass always looks greener things but until you get out there and trap commercially and see what really goes into it then most people dont really know the costs and hard work that is involved. Anyone can go set a minnow trap on the side of the road and get a couple dozen minnows(probly spend more in fuel going there and back than just buying most times), but when you need the amounts we need as bait shops its a totally different ball game. We work very hard trying to get bait for our customers and I can say for myself that I very rarely, cant get something when someone asks..especially when they give me enough notice! Anyways, just hoping people see the other side of things too because I do realize bait prices seem high, because they are compared to 10-15 years ago but its def not because we are getting rich! And as mentioned above I feel the shop in the Sault was outragious with there pricing(hence why I made the post). Were not here to rip anyone off but everyones gotta make a living! Hope to see you for may long and if anyone has any orders please phone ahead and ill mark the order on our calendar to make sure we have what your looking for and ready for when you want to pick it up. As always it will be packed in a box with some ice for the ride!! Josh 683-3778

I've never fished it, but I'd definitely recommend Shebandewan.

Back in about 93 - 94 I owned a bait shop and things weren't easy , I had to buy bait from wholesalers and that always didn't work out. At the time there was 10 bait shops between here and K. Falls , now there's what 4-5 including Silver Mountain not including the ones in K Falls and some aren't open all the time. The face of bait dealing has changed in the old days they were open 7 days a week and had the costumer base to do that. Fishing hasn't declined the way anglers fish has look, at all the tournament anglers you have not many of them are buying bait mainly bass anglers . I don't think you have the American business you once had also . A lot of people are just into camping and don't fish a whole lot , many times I have been out at a lake there be maybe 12 units there and maybe 2 or 3 would fish the rest just prefer to camp. As for getting rich that's another story.

I have the same cardinal reel on my rod that I keep in my truck. For the price it works well with a good drag and light weight. Shimano siennas are another reliable reel at around $45. I got one when I renewed my OFAH membership. They are a little heavier but seem to be well built, not quite as smooth as the cardinal though.
