I usually find them in creeks around beginning of June when Im flyfishing as well. Usually i bring small rod, worms and float. When I catch first one i open it up and see what kind of bugs its been eating. More often than not its dragon fly and stonefly nymphs. As well as an assortment of other small nymphs. Tie or buy lots of brown, black nymphs and you will slay them at that point if you match the hatch. If im looking for giants…the early June/late spring bite in Jesse Lake (Nip River system) is solid before it heats up. Then you wait until Fall. for small creeks your in the right spots but again maybe a little early. Wolf is very good normally. Mackenzie, Current River at North Branch or below highway above centennial park, or a bit further east past Nipigon, Cypress Creek holds LOTS of specks. I do have a few of my own very specific and reliable “honey holes”. But they are far from secret lol. Most trout bums know the areas, but if you have options youll catch BT in those rivers. Have the options of, fly rod and flies, small #0-1 mepps spinners (red spoon 😉), floats, worms. I always have the untra lite rod with me and #4 fly rod. The best worms are the ones youll find under rocks and logs on your way to the river. Good luck…bring bug spray.

Waves were not fun yesterday coming out of dog in the 12ft. I feel bad for the lady in the front of the boat.

Other seasons I can’t seem to locate in the regs: walter, Waldo, king salmon, steelhead, coaster, swamp donkey, eel pout, laker, brookie, looper, musky, gator, snake, hammer handle, smallie. Most things go by many names but the only “correct” name is sander vitreus

I AM an American, an immigrant, and I called them Walleye exclusively until a local called them pickerel, which confused me. I had never heard of a pickerel. I had to go look at the regs and research to learn that it's just a local thing. Your experience isn't everyone else's. To the point, if you bag on someone for promoting clarity, the only person you hurt is yourself. It's good to show grace when someone corrects you, if they're right, instead of giving them grief for trying to help keep everyone on the same page. No one's giving anyone grief for referring to a Walleye as a pickerel colloquially, but when seasons and rules and what's open are being discussed, clarity is important.

Looking forward to catching pickerel when pickerel season opens. Pickerel sure do taste good. Usually catch my weight in pickerel every 20 minutes. Pickerel pickerel pickerel pickerel
