Just wondering if anyone has been out smelting yet? Now when I say this I mean I only want to know who has netted lots of them not a half a dozen.

You mean the minnows that we call smelt lol.... I don't even bother anymore. I use bigger bait than what comes in on the run.

Thanks BHD, I have been meaning to start a thread on Smelt fishing myself... and now, you saved me the trouble. And thanks for that levi, knowing that you no longer fish for smelts is quite helpful, informing, and relevant.

I understand things will be early this year but when do the smelts usually start running? I have never been before and would like to try.

Generally, in a 'normal' year the run occurs the last week of April.
