Guest MNR Report post Posted April 22, 2013 Season closures, possession limits and size restrictions are critical regulations for limiting over exploitation of populations and to help rehabilitate degraded fisheries. Brook trout typically reach sexual maturity by age 3 and live to between 5 and 8 years. It’s safe to say that a 22’’ brook trout is mature, has spawned several times and is not as common in Lake Superior as smaller individuals. By restricting the possession limit to one fish over 22’’, we increase the reproductive potential for the majority of spawning adult brook trout, while also maintaining a sustainable, quality brook trout fishery.
