When do you think Whitefish Lake will Freeze Over?

When is the "official" contest going to start Lyle? Should soon if you intend on accumulating some prizes before freeze-up.

The way the weather is looking in the forecast, looks like WF wont be freezing for a bit yet. Itd be nice to know what surface temps are.

Hi Ryan,

Way to windy out. Unless it was already frozen. If the wind calms down it should freeze over. And yes, -15 here.

Agree - I'd say fishing could commence as early as next weekend for a few eager candidates. Word on the street is that it is in fact iced over and close to 2-3 inches. No clue whether thats correct or not, but it was nippy the last few days and that lake doesn't take long.

Ryan! I already know you can't curl, time to prove that you can at least fish!!!

He has been trying to prove he can fish. At least he's persistent.

Yah, I think it's time for a ride this weekend to get a first-hand look at what's there. The night's have been cold enough to make ice and at this time of year the milder daytime temps won't melt what's been made overnight. I'm gonna take my auger and measure the depths, but I'm 100% certain I will be icing no later than November 30th.

MR.SAFETY

I have been out at the lake for a few days now. Sunday you could not walk out 15 feet from shore where I am. A few hundred meters west of the boat launch. Yesterday I walked out 15 feet from shore in about 3 feet of water and there was just less than 3 inches of ice, with just a skiff of snow. Temperatures out here have been colder than city. But I do not believe the ice is even safe yet to be venturing out. Its good solid ice but needs more time to make it safer. I will be out early again next week and I will post my findings.

The 7-day forecast of overnight temps will build ice quickly. Sunday's high of -3C looks like excellent weather for the 1st trip out. No sleds, just gonna pull the toboggan and drill as I go. I will send Lyle ahead as my "coon dog" until I see him on point, then stop & drill to ensure safe conditions. Report & pics to follow......

Max and I are going to attempt to make the trip on foot as well this weekend. Not sure which day yet. But you'll know it's us because our huge pile of fish should be visible from shore.

Well you boys are more man than I am. Glad your comfortable with working with 4 inches! But for some that's all they have to work with. Good luck ;)
