Squeers update March 11

Recommended Posts

sinker7

Myself and Alf Barrow hit Squeers today. Put a full day in from 8am-5pm. Here is the summary.

Road conditions - Good, snow covered to bare gravel. Smooth ride in 50-60kmh. No issues if you are pulling a trailer. Much faster with no trailer.

Trail - Good, moguls throughout. No bare spots. Hill is decent. Back bay is packed no slush.

Lake - Slush is everywhere. Crusty snow from the warm weather but not enough to hold any weight. A sled with paddle tracks and decent power will not have any problems. Rubber boots are a necessity. Would not recommend bringing young children with all the water.

Fishing - Had to work hard for the fish. The morning bite was decent. Caught fish throughout the day but from noon on the bite was extremely light. Fished from 30-75 feet of water and caught fish. We managed 17 trout with our 10 keepers ranging from 13-18", 1 pike around 15lbs that was released and a bonus perch.

Here are the stats posted by the MNR at the check-in station:

Day....... # of Angers...... # of Lake Trout.......# of Pike......Biggest Lt...Biggest Pike

Saturday......123......................189.......................1...............5.5lbs.............7lbs

Sunday.........74........................181......................1...............9.5lbs............11lbs

Monday.........53........................53........................0................3lbs................0lbs

Tuesday........29........................54........................1................???................15lbs??

Good luck to those going out for the remainder of the fishery.

Nice pike! Heard somebody got a big one out there yesterday.

You guys must have been down that far shore? We fished a couple spots but only on the first half or so of the lake and didn't encounter any slush.

Headed out again this morning, see how it goes.
