Crainkbaits

Recommended Posts

I have been walleye fishing all of my life. Each year I try to learn new techniques in order to become a better fisherperson. I have used various crankbaits over the years with some success but I feel there is a lot more that I could learn about how to use them. I was wondering what styles and colours would be the best to start with? I am going to get some original rapalas, as well I also have shad raps and flicker shads. I have used crankbaits on a bottom bouncer before, is this a successful technique? Any help would be appreciated.

three way rigs with floating cranks such as a jointed rap is method that makes sense

and it similar to what you are trying to do with a bottom bouncer.

Rapala will have online literature on this...

you can also find good youtube vids that illustrate the technique.

Bottom bouncing works well with an original floating rapala but i find its better in deeper water. As far as good cranks, i really like the x-rap, and live target perch. I know they are expensive but very nice lures

Taildancers are deadly on walleye. Trolled or casted.

I can see other people prefer minnow shaped baits over others for walleye just like me. I did choose a shad rap which has a stubbier wider profile but thats because the shad rap rocks. In perch it is a great lure for any species in our region. For x raps, my preference is the black back/gold belly...and clown for darker water. For husky jerks I love firetiger. Amazing pike bait as well.
