What happened to taking from the Nipigon?

Jay

i believe the locals got fed up with the salmon association taking fish from their river. And voiced their disapproval.along with the local MNR. And the fact that the river is producing more natural fish than the hatchery.

Went to black bay on Monday, landed 5 salmon and 3 lake trout between 11 and 4. Lost a few others. All the salmon were 5-7 lbs. We were fishing 100+ FOW with lines 25-50ft. Northern king monkey pukes seemed to be the ticket.

I'll be fishing again pretty soon. Had to take a break for abit there. This year I don't fish in the day time no more. I go out in morning when it's still dark enough I have to use flash light to set up. Fish till about 9 or ten am. Or evening I'll go out after 6. I've spent way to much on gas over the last few years fishing them in daytime. Now it's morn and evening only. Anyway that's what I do.

Finally heading to black bay Saturday morning for my first time for salmon. Got the downriggers mounted and good to go. Should I buy flashers and use them or they not needed? Also, what do I use and how do I tie up a leader for the spoons?

Tried nipigon river the other day. Nothing. Still some time before they come in in any heavy numbers.

Tried the flats between the Welcomes and PI today. Nothing but Lakers :( However, my son and I did manage to achieve our personal best for our biggest lake trout with this beauty.

We had just enough time to grab a quick picture and weight before we let her swim back down to the deeper water.

Nothing but 2 fatty Siscowets on Black Bay yesterday. The Squaw Bay launch sure is a disaster when busy. One cuddy boat taking up most of the space at the main dock (if you can call it that) and commercial fisherman taking up the other. Time for somebody to invest some money both there and Silver Islet for some decent docks and parking. I guess that's what you get in an unorganized township though. Hopefully this National Marine Conservation Area designation will bring in some government money.....
