Guest Dan Report post Posted October 7, 2007 I'm surprised to see that NASCAR is running a close second to hockey. I thought that I was the only local fan. Guest TerryK Report post Posted October 7, 2007 I find this...... ...way, WAY more exciting than this: Just messing with you Dan. I've been an MX junkie my entire life. I just can't get into NASCAR, but now that our sport's 2 biggest stars Jeremy McGrath and Ricky Carmichael have retired from MX/SX to chase safer careers in NASCAR I may have to watch a few roundy rounds! Guest Dan Report post Posted October 7, 2007 You know what Terry. People always criticize others for what they like in life. But it's usually the people that have no hobbies that do that. I don't like golf. But I don't criticize those that do. You and I, as well as the others on this message board, are lucky. We do things. We enjoy things. We live life to the fullest. That's why we're here. I hope that you get out fishing tomorrow. I'll enjoy my race. That, my friend, is what it's all about. By the way. What's this crap I hear about Ricky Carmichael coming to NASCAR??? Pulllleeeeze....

Guest TerryK Report post Posted October 7, 2007 Dan: I don't criticize, I tease (you know that!). It's all in good fun. The way I see it, whatever floats your boat is fine with me just as long as it doesn't affect my hobbies. I LOVE to tease people about NASCAR because they are so hardcore and get offended so easily! My only real problem with NASCAR is with SPEED. The total saturation of their programing with NASCAR stuff is annoying to say the least. Some days they have 8-10 hours of NASCAR programing. WTF dude? BTW, don't be so quick to judge RC on his move to NASCAR. The man is an absolute machine in his training, work ethic, attitude, desire to win and desire to succeed. They call him the G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time) and his 150 professional wins and 20 professional championships are proof. He even has 2 UNDEFEATED seasons. That's an unbelievable 52 races in a row without a loss. What other athlete, in ANY sport, can boast of a career like that? * 1997 AMA 125 National Champion (Kawasaki) * 1998 AMA 125 East Coast SX Champion (Kawasaki) * 1998 AMA 125 National Champion (Kawasaki) * 1999 AMA 125 National Champion (Kawasaki) * 2000 AMA 250 National Champion (Kawasaki) * 2000 U.S. Open of Supercross (Kawasaki) * 2000 Motocross des Nations Champion (Team USA) (Kawasaki) * 2001 AMA 250 Supercross Champion (Kawasaki) * 2001 AMA 250 National Champion (Kawasaki) * 2001 U.S. Open of Supercross (Honda) * 2002 AMA 250 Supercross Champion (Honda) * 2002 AMA 250 National Champion (Honda) * 2003 AMA 250 Supercross Champion (Honda) * 2003 AMA 250 National Champion (Honda) * 2004 AMA 250 National Champion (Honda) * 2005 AMA 250 Supercross Champion (Suzuki) * 2005 AMA 250 National Champion (Suzuki) * 2005 WSXGP 250 Supercross Champion (Suzuki) * 2005 Motocross des Nations Champion (Team USA) (Suzuki) * 2005 U.S. Open of Supercross (Suzuki) * 2006 AMA Supercross Champion (Suzuki) * 2006 AMA Motocross Champion (Suzuki) * 2006 Racer Of The Year * 2007 X Games 13 MotoX Gold * 2007 Motocross of Nations Champion (Team USA) (Suzuki) * Only Rider to score perfect season(2002 and 2004 AMA national) Simply put, he WILL become a force to be reckoned with in NASCAR. Guest Angler AV Report post Posted October 7, 2007 Nascar is an extreme waste of resources....it makes me sick. Think of the fuel consumption during a race. Why are we going to hybrid cars and bio diesel to conserve fuel and air quality when Nascar is allowed to continue. I drive a pickup and it is hardly great on gas but I do it to get to work or fishing, not for the entertainment of people. The redneck forces behind Nascar would probably not even stop if there was a fuel crisis (shortage) in the future. Imagine the barrage of Busch and Miller cans that would get tossed on the guys lawn who was responsible for cancelling Nascar? ...oh and not to mention its boring as hell! Imagine the barrage of Busch and Miller cans that would get tossed on the guys lawn who was responsible for cancelling Nascar? ...oh and not to mention its boring as hell! AV In NASCAR's defense, (or any other motorsport for that matter) the amount of fuel the whole nascar tour burns in a year is a single drop in a HUGE bucket that the 280 million people in the US burn in a DAY. I've seen studies on this very subject and the effect on the fuel reserves is negligible at best. Besides, huge revenues and hundreds of thousands of jobs are created through all forms of racing. The only way to stop racing is for every single person in the country to stop buying the sponsors products. Without consumers, no sponsor companies. Without sponsors, no money for racing. Racing is all about advertising, period. Here's a list of NASCAR's official sponsors. Guest Dan Report post Posted October 8, 2007 Nascar is an extreme waste of resources....it makes me sick. Think of the fuel consumption during a race. I'd like to see the stats comparing the fuel usage between a NASCAR race and the hundreds of thousands of North Americans that go fishing every weekend. There's thousands of fishermen that are hauling a 20 foot plus boat around the continent every weekend with their fuel thirsty SUV's. Ever take a drive to the border in June, July or August? I do that drive weekly, and it's nothing to see 30, 40 or 50 such rigs every trip pulling gas thirsty boats with 200 hp+ motors. Not all of us haul big boats though. Lots of guys have car toppers that they throw on the roof rack of their truck. I, and I'm sure you too, see them all over town. Most of these boats are powered by 10 to 40 year old 2 strokes, which are polluting machines. And those old 2 strokes last forever. These are my observations in our small part of the continent. Multiply that by the rest of North America and compare that to the fuel burned during a NASCAR, or any other race. I agree with saving the planet and all that stuff, but we as fishermen are just as guilty as any other sportsman as far as abusing fuel goes. If we have the money, we'll buy it and do as we please with it.
Some Old Guy 968 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 Well look at it this way, Every sport uses fuel. I mean every one of them. A long distance runner doesn't run or walk to the marathon. They drive or fly. I don't row my boat around, I drive it. Even horse racing uses fuel! The horses don't live at each trck they run at. And the fuel that NASCAR uses........Well try filling up your tank with that stuff and see what happens. Roger Quote R.T.R. Respect the resource!
Gone8to1248 158 Report post Posted October 9, 2007 There is nothing but Moto......nothing. Hey Terry if there was a race between an American car and a Canadian car and the American car won. How would YOU write it up? The Canadian car came in second while the American car came in next to last? LOL LOL I have been to a few races and never really got into it though. If I want to see people driving fast and running into each other I just go up and drive on the Expressway's around Chicago! There just something about people that enjoy watching cars going around in a circle! Bernie
