Some Old Guy 968 Report post Posted August 14, 2017 Stocking of salmon in our area continues. Is this a benefit or a detriment to the existing salmon in our area? What are your thoughts on this subject? Roger Quote R.T.R. Respect the resource!
nunez 10 Report post Posted August 14, 2017 Keep stocking. Look at Lake Ontario. Best salmon fishery there is and they continue to stock it year after year. Maybe we need to stock baitfish to help out the salmon.
mad scientist 140 Report post Posted August 15, 2017 Neither helpful nor detrimental. The salmon populations in the area are entirely capable to maintain themselves by natural reproduction. The stocked fish don't seem to be contributing to the fishery in any substantive way, but the collection of eggs for the hatchery is also only a minor impact to the natural population.
