salmon escape from farm.

Recommended Posts

seen on the news this morning that some atlantic salmon escaped from a farm on the U.S. side. anglers are allowed to go and catch as many as they can. apparently they're invasive and can be harmful to the pacific salmon . B.C. has a battle going on over fish farm right now so this doesn't play well for those companies that operate these farms. I guess you could say the salmon are on the run.

Not the first time this has happened.  In 1996, 1997, and 1999 there were large escapes of approximately 107,000, 369,000, and 115,000 fish, respectively. Escapes from pens in British Columbia in 1994-1995 were estimated to be about 60,000 fish. This is a reduction in escapes compared to what had been reported in the early 90's. Total annual escape from B.C. pens according to the most recent reports, to include chronic "leakage" of smaller fish (which is not reported), could exceed 50,000 fish, annually. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - WOW - what a ride!!!
