arvey 154 Report post Posted August 2, 2019 Recently I inquired at a local dealer about a package they have . I looked at it late last year I was told the motor was a 2017 boat 2018 . I thought I'll wait till this year thinking it would be a little better deal. Just to confirm I asked what year the motor was he tells me the manufactures no longer go by year it's hours so if it has no hours it's considered new. I said you mean I could by a motor 2 , 3 years old and pay 2019 price. If this is true it's just another way for the manufactures to get more out of you for less. Bobber Down 921 Report post Posted August 2, 2019 Thats common for a lot of items. The warranty on items manufactured several years ago starts at the time of sale. I know the warranty starts when you buy the item . Maybe I'm to old school at one time you could call up a dealer and pick up none current models and you'd get a pretty good deal . If you buy a 2 - 3 yr. old motor you're paying top dollar it could be 2000 more than it originally was and you may not get any upgrades that could have occurred . To me there's no competition in the market manufactures are setting the price and dealers have the attitude that's the price no extras. I met a guy the bought a 40 thousand outfit then the dealer charged 150 to put decals on the motor to match the boat to me that's a joke. Like I said pay more get less , I guess it's world we live in.
