Fished only for a couple hours in 18 feet and caught lots of small fish with a half dozen 8-10 ....great day with mild temps and low wind! 2112 174 Report post Posted January 7, 2020 Super cool video! 2 years ago I was fishing on black bay and was witness to what I could only describe as an ice quake. We were sitting in the shack and it basically sounded like a shockwave coming from end of the bay towards granite. First we heard it coming and getting louder, me and my buddy have the wtf look on our face. Next thing you know the ice is shaking, water in the holes were pumping up and down then we got hit with some violent shaking like we were going to break through 2 ft of ice and die and then as quick as it came it ripped out past granite and you could hear the shock wave going out the bay towards superior. AB 98 Report post Posted January 7, 2020 There is a marked trail from Hurkett Cove out to Granite. Its not an ice road for trucks, just a well worn trail for sleds. Gary puts out the markers so that everyone has a safe reference to get out to the popular fishing area. The snow cover is deep enough that a truck would make a real mess of it and could get into trouble. There are some slush spots on the trail but sleds generally can run right over without dropping through. Its at least a 12km run out to Granite from Hurkett with much of the trail miles offshore. When whiteout conditions hit, which can be anytime with a ground wind and loose snow the marked trail is a life line back to safety. Please don't try and take a truck out there. One pop of a pressure ridge and getting a vehicle home is going to be real tough, aka expensive! Tight lines! AB 5 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
