Any techies in here? I got a Lowrance gen 2 HDs with down and side image structure scan. I kinda want panoptix but the investment is large. And the unit I have is pretty good. Anyone know what I would need to upgrade to a larger touch screen? Can I keep the transducer? Can I network them? Do I just bite the bullet and get 2 new garmin units and panoptix?

Lowrance does offer lots of options with models and networking. I had a HDS 7 Gen2 which worked well for many years. They can be networked with  similar HDS models but more limited when trying to do an old to new connection. If you are shopping check Radioworld.ca in Toronto. They have always had the best prices and been great to deal with.  Watch for non-current models on sale. I switched to Garmin with side imaging and enjoyed the units a lot so far. The features and mapping that was included with the Garmin Echomap helped make my decision to switch.  I really enjoy building my own maps with the software mapping included. All three brands have the capability now but the other two require you to buy some additional accessories to use the mapping feature. Also, Garmin now own Navionics. Now I just have to bit the bullet and get the panoptix transducer now....
