Barbed or Barbless fly hooks

Recommended Posts

toma-hawk

I use barbed hooks but I pinch the barbs down on all my flies  I tie . Does anyone buy barb less hooks out there, and are the prices for hooks comparable to barbed ones?  I also pinch the barbs down before I start tying, because I find sometimes the hook brakes, doesn't happen often but it does happen.Like to here your thoughts

I think barbed and barbless hooks no change in price. I’ve bought some accidentaly. I fish barbed all the time and should start pinching them on the smaller flies for sure.

If your hook is breaking when you pinch the barb, they are not a quality hook.

i would switch brands. Nothing like hooking a quality fish and the hook breaks or bends.

Firehole makes a great barbless hook. I pretty much just use barbed hooks and pinch them.

If you intend to release fish, barbless is the way to go
