Looking for confirmation on the opening day of big game season in 2008. Does it once again fall on the short weekend (Oct.4) or is it the normal long weekend (Oct.11)?

The answer to your question depends on who you are, where and what you’re hunting for and what firearm you’re using. The definition of big game under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act includes moose, deer and bear.

The season for black bear for residents and non-residents is from August 15 to October 31, in any year. (archery and gun).

Archery season for Ontario residents for deer in the Thunder Bay area (Wildlife Management Units, 11B, 12B, 13, 15B is from September 1 to the Friday preceding the Saturday closest to October 8, in any year. There is no archery season for non-residents in WMU’s 11B, 13, and 15B.

Gun season for deer in the above units for Ontario residents begins on the Saturday closest to Oct 8th to December 15th in any year. There is no gun season for non-residents in WMU’s 11B, 12B, 13, 15B.

Archery season for residents for moose in the above units is from the Saturday closest to September 17 to the third Friday following, in any year. There is no season for non-residents in 11B.

Gun Season for residents for moose in the above units is from the Saturday closest to October 8 to December 15, in any year. The non-residents season is from the Monday next following the Saturday closest to September 17 to November 15, in any year.

In WMU 16C (Armstrong area) moose for residents for archery and gun is open from the Saturday closest to September 17 to December 15, in any year. For non-residents the season is from the Monday next following the Saturday closest to September 17 to November 15, in any year.
