Guest MNR Report post Posted February 14, 2008 MNR Answer: Cisco otherwise known as Lake Herring can be angled in Lake Superior (Zone 9) at any time of the year. There is no limit on catch or possession or any size restrictions for either a Standard Fishing Licence or a Conservation Fishing Licence. Lake Whitefish is a completely different species of fish from Cisco. Whitefish on Lake Superior is open all year with a catch and possession limit of 12 of any size for a Sport Fishing Licence and 6 of any size for a Conservation Fishing Licence. There is no season for dip netting Lake Herring in Lake Superior
